Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition also announced!

Rayman's comeback ain't stopping any time soon, it seems. Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition released back in February, surprising fans with not just the character's return, but a proper remaster of his original game (well, except for the music). If you've been following Rayman over the years, though, you'll likely be aware of two of his more recent, spectacular 2D platformers: Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends. The former debuted back in the Wii/PS3/360 era, while the latter initially popped up as a Wii U exclusive.
Legends has been ported a few times in the years since, so you'll be forgiven if you thought yesterday's announcement of Rayman Legends Retold was just another rerelease. It turns out that Retold is a more thorough overhaul of the game it's based on. Take a gander:
Retold is sporting a very shiny new coat of paint in the form of new, 3D assets versus the hand drawn stylings of the original Legends. It'll come down to taste in terms of which look fans prefer, but if nothing else the new graphics in Retold are at least very well done. There are other tweaks to be found in this version of the game, as well. Here's a breakdown:
New world navigation
A whole new world to explore: World of the Livid Dead
Five new stages
Four new musical levels
Enhanced soundtrack
So, it's not just a reskin, but, well, Retold is nonetheless largely more of the Legends that has been on the market in one form or another since 2013. Whether or not this iteration will be worthy of a purchase remains to be seen, but given how excellent the original is, it might not be too hard to get people to give it a go.

Although revealed during Sony's State of Play braodcast, Retold isn't just coming to PlayStation 5. The game will also be available on Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC when it launches on October 1, 2026. It also won't be alone. Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition will also be available as a standalone purchase or as a pre-order bonus. This version of Origins boasts 4K resolution, 60 FPS, and unspecified "modern enhancements." That sounds like one heck of a pack-in. Expect to be playing a lot of Rayman this fall.
