No gameplay, but check out the fancy cinematic shared by Gearbox head Randy Pitchford.
What better way to wash away the terrible memories of Lionsgate's bastardized take on Borderlands than by checking out a first look at the next proper video game installment of the series? This was what Gearbox Software head Randy Pitchford thought would be just the thing to do during Gamescom Opening Night. Take a peek at Borderlands 4:
Beyond this footage, there isn't a whole lot known about what to expect from Borderlands 4. Here's a statement from Pitchford:
The team and I at Gearbox have a lot we’ve wanted to do with Borderlands since we first introduced the looter shooter genre to the world with our original game, All of us at Gearbox have massive ambitions for Borderlands 4 and are putting everything we have into making everything we love about Borderlands better than ever before while taking the game to new levels in exciting new directions
It's certainly an interesting bit of timing releasing this news, as it suggests Pitchford and Gearbox are keen to get people's minds off of the aforementioned flop that is the Borderlands film, which has been a financial disaster and is largely hated by fans and critics in equal measure. It would seem Gearbox is hoping to quickly move on from the abortive movie and reposition the franchise as a premier gaming experience. Borderlands 4 is said to be coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2025.
