The film has made waves for revolting both fans and critics alike.
It just keeps getting worse and worse for Borderlands. The film debuted last week with a resounding thud when it hit Rotten Tomatoes with a 0% score. Although it has since risen a wee bit to 8% (with a corresponding 38% All Audience score), the consensus among viewers seems to be that the film is not good. Now, the first weekend has come and gone, and the box office for Borderlands is... correspondingly underwhelming, to say the least.
Borderlands had a reported $115 million budget, with about $30 million spent on marketing. Over the weekend, the film snagged $8.8 million domestically and another $7.7 internationally, bringing its global total to $16.5 million. The video game adaptation is on pace to outdo the abortive Madame Web as the biggest flop of 2024. Overall, it's quite the disaster for Lionsgate and likely the last time fans will be seeing Borderlands on the silver screen for the foreseeable future.
