The film might not even be able to meet the box office total of major Disney flop Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

This is decidedly not the way.

Disney and Lucasfilm's Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu has come out of its second weekend at the box office in worse shape than it was over its Memorial Day opening. Across those four days, Mando and Grogu failed to hit $100 million at the domestic box office, and was similarly weak internationally, only managing to scrape together $67 million abroad. Now, Disney's return of Star Wars to the silver screen has been usurped by not one, but two horror films created by YouTubers.

Both Obsession and Backrooms took the first and second positions at the box office, respectively. This left Mando and Grogu in third place with a haul of roughly $24 million. With Disney executives alleging that the film needs to earn at least $600 million to break even, Mando and Grogu are a ways away from hitting that total. Indeed, things are looking so bleak for Mando and Grogu that projections are placing the film behind the box office total of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

Normally, being in the same company as an Indiana Jones movie would likely be a good thing, but unfortunately the Disney/Lucasfilm feature, produced by Kathleen Kennedy, was a major flop. Dial of Destiny pulled in about $384 million when all was said and done, and with or without adjusting for inflation, Mando and Grogu is predicted to fall well short of that number with a total somewhere around $350 million.

As if that isn't bad enough, with Masters of the Universe heading into theaters this weekend, Mando and Grogu will also be getting scaled back IMAX support, as theaters try to find something more profitable to screen in the premium format. This move will almost assuredly mean Mando and Grogu will be stuck in third place or worse for the remainder of its theatrical run.

It's all quite the historic collapse for the once venerable franchise.
