Gamescom: Dying Light: The Beast Announced

Kyle Crane is back and once again voiced by Roger Craig Smith.

Revealed during the Gamescom Opening Night festivities, Techland is back with another installment in its popular Dying Light series. This sequel, titled Dying Light: The Best, is primed to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Take a look at the game in this nifty trailer:

Techland has stated that this new game was originally planned as a DLC expansion for Dying Light 2, but during development it evolved beyond that following a plot leak. Inspired, Techland decided to go in a new direction, and this was the result. This new adventure promises 20 hours of gameplay in a new region. It will bring back original protagonist Kyle Crane, who is once again voiced by Roger Craig Smith.

In this story, Crane has escaped from captivity after being experimented on for 13 years. His captivity has lent him new abilities in the form of zombie-imbued DNA. While Crane seeks revenge on his captors, there is, as the title so aptly puts it, a beast roaming the woods that is immensely powerful. With Crane's new abilities, however, he is more than a match for the monster.

Dying Light: The Beast will offer four-player co-op as well as solo play. It will also be free to those who already own Dying Light 2: Stay Human Ultimate Edition. That said, Techland has also announced that it will stop selling both Dying Light 2: Ultimate Edition and Ultimate Upgrade as of September 30, 2024. If you're interested in getting The Beast as part of that offer, you'd better act sooner rather than later. It will also be available as a standalone purchase, but Techland has yet to say what pricing will be. There is also no firm release date, but once we know more, so too will you.
