But is it the end of the line or is there more to come?

Ultimate Spider-Man was a surprise hit when it launched back in 2024. Written by Jonathan Hickman and illustrated by artist Marco Checchetto (and others), the series focuses on a Peter Parker who becomes Spider-Man later in life after being married to Mary Jane Watson and having kids for years. If the idea of Peter and MJ being together sounds like a no-brainer, well, so did readers who flocked to the series and embraced its quasi-return to the status quo that the character had for decades.

The return of Ultimate Spider-Man also brought the return of the Ultimate Universe and proved to be a successful relaunch for Marvel Comics at a time when the publisher really needed a hit. However, it seems that Marvel is ready to move on, as Ultimate Spider-Man will be ending with issue 24. which will (fittingly) hit stores on December 24, 2025. Then, Marvel will be launching Ultimate Endgame #1 on 12.31.25. Here are the solicits for both:

Jonathan Hickman and Marco Checchetto’s generational Spider-Man saga reaches its planned conclusion in ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #24. Fans should prepare themselves for a startling finale that will cement the run as one of the most beloved Spider-Man runs in recent history. Packed with dramatic—and shocking—developments for the entire Parker family—Peter, Mary Jane, Richard, May and Uncle Ben—along with Harry Osborn, Gwen Stacy and more, the issue will also create promising roadmaps for future storytelling.

Teased last week, ULTIMATE ENDGAME delivers the moment every reader has been waiting for—the return of the Maker! Imprisoned for the last two years—both in real time and in-universe—the Maker is set to emerge and finally confront the heroes who have brought hope and freedom to a world he once held in his tight grip! Bringing the characters of all five titles together for the first time, the Ultimate fate of this captivating new universe is decided in an epic, multi-front conflict with the Maker and his powerful allies.

Ultimate Endgame is being written by the polarizing Deniz Camp and drawn by a group of artists led by Jonas Scharf. While Spider-Man has certainly garnered quite a following, other series like Camp's Ultimates have been... hit or miss, to put it politely. How much mileage Ultimate Endgame will get you will likely depend on how much of a fan of Camp's work that you are.

The question now is, what comes next for the Ultimate Universe after Ultimate Endgame? Is this the end or the transition into something new? If the solicit for Ultimate Spider-Man #24 is anything to go off of, word that "the issue will also create promising roadmaps for future storytelling" does suggest more is to come. As we learn more, we'll be sure to share it with all of you here at Bits & Bytes.
