Humans Are the Bad Guys in Green Lantern: Doomed Cosmos

Hal Jordan might be the cosmos' only hope!

Despite Warner Bros. best efforts to let James Gunn completely undo all of the groundbreaking work by Geoff Johns, Ethan Van Sciver, and the other talented creators who turned Green Lantern into a major pillar of the DC universe back in the early 2000s, the character is still beloved by comic book fans. A new Elseworlds story is set to cast Hal Jordan in a new light as a savior of not humanity, but rather the cosmos itself, as humans are the scourge of existence in this new reality.
Written by Dan Watters with art by the esteemed Kyle Hotz, Green Lantern: Doomed Cosmos is a six-issue miniseries where humanity has conquered the stars and only the Green Lantern Corps stands in their way. In this series, Hal was betrayed by Oliver Queen and left to die. Rescued by the Corps Hal is retrained as a Green Lantern. The Empire of Humanity has conquered planet after planet for centuries. No with Hal among them, the Corps. has a chance to truly strike back and end the threat.
Hotz seems totally energized to be working on this series. He says that on a visual level, he is "trying to walk the line between over-the-top space opera and the emotional beats of the story. Apart from being a Green Lantern fan from when I was just a little kid, my prep for this was really spending time studying some of the best war films. I want to get the feeling across that the Lanterns are beat up, tired, and certainly the underdogs. Their armor is cracked and broken, and their weapons are held together with tape and wire. These are soldiers nearing the end of their fight.”
Hal certainly looks like he'd fit in with the rest of the Corps as members of COG in the Gears of War games. Green Lantern: Doomed Cosmos will be shipping January 20, 2027. If you're interested, please hit up your local comic book shop and ask them to reserve you a copy.
