A whole lot of cute, not a whole lot of Mario, Link, or Samus.

Nintendo does love to throw fans curveballs every now and then, and today the company did exactly that with the release of a new, mysterious short animation called Close to You. The brief video revolves around a baby taking its first steps and there is nary a plumber nor warrior nor space bounty hunter to be found. It was first shown off via the Nintendo Today! app, then was further disseminated across the company's various social channels. You can it for yourself down below:
As you can see in the footage, while there is no overt reference to any specific Nintendo IP, there does seem to be at least the suggestion that perhaps Pikmin are involved. As the blocks and pacifier move around the child of their seemingly own accord, the movement, as well as close to the ground perspective we see in some shots, implies that the diminutive creatures might be behind it all.
What's more, at the 1:38 mark something can be seen scurrying out of sight in the background... a something that might be a Pikmin. But at this point, your guess is as good as ours. We'll be sure to update if Nintendo reveals anything else relating to this video.
