Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition Hits Nintendo Switch 2 This Fall

Square Enix graciously did not put "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" in the title.

Dragon Quest Day 2026 gave fans word that Dragon Quest XII has gotten a redesign in the form of Dragon Quest XII: Beyond Dreams. Along with that news were several other announcements, including word that Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition will be getting a, er, definitive-er edition on Nintendo Switch 2. This latest rerelease of Dragon Quest XI comes with one big, disappointing caveat, which is that those who already own the game for Nintendo Switch will not be given an upgrade path for the Nintendo Switch 2 version. No reason has been given, but it sucks nonetheless. There's a silver lining that might make take some of the sting off, which is that the Switch 1 version is on sale for 50% off, so if you have $20 to spare, that iteration of the game can be yours.

Going back to the Switch 2 edition of Dragon Quest XI, the big difference is the performance mode options available on this platform. Choose between performance and graphics at your leisure as you make your way through Erdrea. There are also some item packs that will be available to fans upon download of the game.
