"A restart in development under a new structure."

You might recall that during the Dragon Quest 35th anniversary broadcast Square Enix had revealed Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate. It's been five years since that announcement, and during that time Akira Toriyama, Dragon Quest's designer, passed away, followed not long thereafter by the departure of series producer Yu Miyake. And during the course of that half-decade, well, not much has been seen of Dragon Quest XII. That all changed with the 40th anniversary livestream for the series when Square Enix announced that the game was being rebranded as Dragon Quest XII: Beyond Dreams. Take a look:
According to Square, Dragon Quest XII "underwent a restart in development under a new structure," including the new name and a refreshed logo that skews away from the dark, brooding one that had been shown off in 2021. Although brief, there's enough shown off here to indicate that Beyond Dreams will be more in line with the tone of previous entries in series. As for when and where XII will launch? That's still unknown, and odds are fans are still a ways away from getting their hands on the game. We'll update once we learn more, but be sure to let us know what you think of this development shift on social media!
