Not a lot of news, but enough to interest the fans still hanging on for some hope.
Star Wars is in rough shape. While Star Wars: The Force Awakens came roaring out of the gates with a huge $2 billion global box office, every subsequent Star Wars film has seen a dip in profits. This was arguably capped off by the disastrous production of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which went through multiple reshoots and is rumored to have cost considerably more than the $416 million budget reported by Disney. Since then, Star Wars has been missing in action on the silver screen and become a regular on Disney+ with a number of different TV series.
Those shows have been... pretty spotty in terms of quality. For every Andor there seems to be one or two The Acolyte ready to ruin everyone's day. It's unclear if things will get much better for the brand moving forward, but with The Acolyte now in the rearview mirror, Disney and Lucasfilm can look towards the future, starting with the two-episode premier of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew on December 3, 2024. The show was given some screen time during this year's D23 presentation. Here's a first look at the show:
Beyond that, Lucasfilm also talked The Mandalorian & Grogu film with Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni. When it hits theaters in 2026, it will have been five years since the last time Disney put a Star Wars film in cinemas. Finally, Andor Season 2 will hit Disney+ in 2025. It will feature four arcs comprised of three episodes apiece, Each arc will jump a year ahead when concluded.
Fingers crossed for Disney Star Wars fans that Lucasfilm can start to right the ship. We'll keep you all posted as we learn more.
