Things are rough for the House of Mouse. Along with the continued rejection of the Star Wars brand thanks to the horrendously received Disney+ series The Acolyte and numerous films at the box office failing to turn a profit, now Disney has to contend with a more mundane, but no less malevolent, calamity: a data breach. Hackers have allegedly gotten their hands on 1.1TB of data via the company's internal Slack communications. Hacker group Nullbulge is taking credit for the breach.
The hack apparently has contained within it a huge range of items, including images and details pertaining to unreleased and unannounced projects, as well as the personal information for countless Disney employees, including company login information. Nullbulge is against the use of generative AI in art, which seems to be a potential motive for their attack on Disney. Disney has come under fire by fans in recent years for suspicions of using AI in some of its productions, most notably the credits sequence in Secret Invasion, which the show's director Ali Silem admitted.
Disney has remained silent on this rumored security compromise, but as time passes there's a high likelihood that some, if not all, of this data will eventually make its way to the Internet. How this will impact things like Gina Carano's lawsuit against Disney and other litigation the company is currently embroiled in remains unknown, but as this situation unfolds, we'll keep you posted.
