The enhanced remake aims to please fans new and old.

This game has been a rumor for quite a while now, but thankfully all of the scuttlebutt can go away as it's now certifiable fact that Final Fantasy Tactics is indeed being remade. Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles is an enhanced remake of the beloved PlayStation game from 1998. A tactical RPG, Tactics follows the exploits of Ramza Beoulve and company in the kingdom of Ivalice. Yesterday during Sony's State of Play showcase, the game was shown off in a new trailer. Take a peek:

The Ivalice Chronicles is promising to preserve all the things that made the original so beloved (its epic story, job system, and the battle system, to name a few), while also introducing new content and making some tweaks. A brand new UI has been incorporated, as well as English and Japanese voice acting. The visuals have been overhauled for HD screens, and two new features have been added in: Tactical View to get an easier glance of the battlefield and Battle Speed to make fights go faster.

Now, if you're shaking your head in dismay at the changes, take heart: the original version of the game will be included, too. It will feature the Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions translation (the 2007 PlayStation Portable remaster) as well as features like auto save. So, hopefully this means fans of all stripes will be pleased when The Ivalice Chronicles comes to PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, and Steam on September 30, 2025.
