Consumers get the short end of the stick, as usual.

Microsoft led the way with price increases in May of last year, raising the cost of its Xbox Series consoles and peripherals. Sony followed suit and jacked up the price of PlayStation 5 and its peripherals back in April. Now, Nintendo has officially done the same with Nintendo Switch 2.
Announced today, Nintendo is raising prices as follows on its hardware offerings:
REGION | PRODUCT | OLD PRICE | NEW PRICE |
Japan | Nintendo Switch 2 (Japanese-Language System) | ¥49,980 | ¥59,980 |
Japan | Nintendo Switch OLED Model | ¥37,980 | ¥47,980 |
Japan | Nintendo Switch | ¥32,978 | ¥43,980 |
Japan | Nintendo Switch Lite | ¥21,978 | ¥29,980 |
United States | Nintendo Switch 2 | $449.99 | $499.99 |
Canada | Nintendo Switch 2 | $629.99 | $679.99 |
Europe | Nintendo Switch 2 | €469.99 | €499.99 |
United Kingdom | Nintendo Switch 2 | £395.99 | --- |
For our purposes, the US pricing has jumped by $50, now making the baselines Switch 2 model about $500. When asked as to why the shift, Nintendo gave the typical, corporate canned response of "changes in market conditions" and the "global business outlook." The ongoing rise in price of memory for electronics across the board is a major contributor to the increase; Nintendo had previously hinted that this increase was on the table owing to exactly that reason.
Meanwhile in Japan, that region is also seeing a jump in price for Nintendo Switch Online. Will we see the same here in the West? For now there isn't any word that consumers will also have to pay more NSO, but we'll keep you posted as we learn more.
