Now do Rings of Power next, Bezos...

Perhaps doing the world a favor, it's being alleged that Amazon has quietly canceled its previously announced The Lord of the Rings MMO. The game had been revealed back in 2023 as a project being jointly developed with Embracer Group. Work on this LotR game has been something of a development hell, as the initial attempt with Leyou Technologies back in 2019 was ultimately scuttled when the company was taken over by Tencent. Now, with Amazon recently laying off a decent chunk of its games division, it seems that tragedy has befallen the project once more.

However, given the utter travesty that is The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Amazon's attempt to adapt writer J.R.R. Tolkien's Appendices of The Lord of the Rings, maybe this move is for the best. To date, Amazon has refused to faithfully adapt Tolkien's writings, and in many instances has worked to intentionally subvert it. Galadriel alone is enough to switch the show off, and indeed many viewers have been doing exactly that; heck, only 37% of people tuning in even completed watching it. At this point, LotR is best left untouched by Amazon. Still, there are likely tens of people out there disappointed by this news, but take heart, as Amazon has said a new LotR game of some kind is in the pike. The details will apparently be revealed at a later time.
