"SIE evaluates new ways to evolve future Loyalty Program efforts."

After three years, Sony is shuttering its PlayStation Stars loyalty program. The word came via email as well as a blog post on the official PlayStation website. SIE says that it "learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to," suggesting that what the company learned was that those players weren't all that interested in what PlayStation Stars had to offer.

For the uninitiated, PlayStation Stars is a loyalty program that offered members digital trinkets and rewards. It began as a mobile offering that was intended to spread to console, but that never materialized, likely owing to the service never quite resonating with players. PlayStation Stars will no longer accept any new members, and existing members will only be able to collect Digital Collectibles and Points, as well as level up, until July 23, 2025. The service will finally shutter completely come November 2, 2026.
An inauspicious end to a fairly superfluous service. Sony says this isn't the end for the company having a loyalty program, so once any announcements are made, we'll be sure to update you all.
