Gunn also shared a motion poster for the film:
Here's a synopsis of the movie, as well:
James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a SUPERMAN who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.
Gunn's Superman has a lot of expectations riding on it, for a variety of reasons. First, the former DCCU had devolved into a massive train wreck following abortive films by Zack Snyder, as well as rank spinoffs like The Flash and Batgirl, with the latter being so bad that WB shelved it to get a tax writeoff rather than put the movie into cinemas. Fan apathy for DC superhero movies had reached a low point, resulting in the restructuring that led to the hiring of Gunn, the creation of DC Studios, and the rebranding to the DCU.
Second, Warner Bros. is said to be somewhere in the neighborhood of $40 billion in debt. The company is struggling to make ends meet, and with the recent failure of Joker: Folie à Deux, which had a bloated budget estimated to be $200 million and a box office of about $206 million, DC superhero films are likely looking like dicier and dicier propositions. While the superhero genre isn't dead, it's arguably on life support as consumers reject low quality offerings and heavy-handed political messaging in many recent releases over the past few years. Superman has to show that there's still life left in superhero films if WB is going to keep investing in future projects.
Come Thursday, fans will get to see if Gunn and WB are at least veering in the right direction.
