A whole lot of Pixar projects are on the horizon.
D23 was this past weekend and the Disney-centric expo had quite a lot of news announcements to make. On the Pixar side of things, Pete Docter, chief creative officer of the animation studio, took the stage to discuss several upcoming projects. Inside Out 2 will be getting a Disney+ spinoff series in the form of Dream Productions, which is set in Riley's mind somewhere between the first and second films.
Toy Story 5 had been previously announced, but Docter revealed some details about the plot that had not been discussed until now. "Toys will go head-to-head with what kids are obsessed with today: electronics,” he said. “This time around it’s toys versus tech." Finally, there was one last tease before Docter exited the presentation: Incredibles 3 is in production.
Sadly, it seems that Pixar is indeed being relegated to more sequels of previous series, but there are some original works on the way, too, including 2025's Elio and Hoppers in 2026. Pixar fans will have plenty to keep them occupied in the coming months and years.
