Sony's recent State of Play showcase dedicated to IO Interactive's upcoming 007 First Light was a real eye-opener for fans. Nearly 40 minutes of footage were played, revealing an in-depth look at the game's shooting mechanics, driving, and much more. Take a look at it for yourself down below:

First, let's take a look at the synopsis of the game:

Discover a new standalone, re-imagined James Bond origin story, and the events that lead an audacious young hero to become the best MI6 agent. Embark on missions in breathtaking locations, drive iconic vehicles, and dive into a cinematic adventure in pursuit of a rogue agent who’s always one step ahead.

From a gameplay perspective, there are clearly hints of Hitman sprinkled throughout (it is an IO game, after all), but the footage also reveals plenty of other elements to make this game stand on its own merits. Narratively, however, the big question mark for many is going to be, how "modern audience" skewing will First Light be? The casting choices bare hardly any resemblance to the classic versions of these characters, but that doesn't necessarily mean the story won't treat the character and his world without respect. Still, if Bond isn't the womanizing, cold spy that fans love, then is he even Bond? We'll find out together when First Light comes to Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X}S, and PC on March 27, 2026.
