Xbox 360 Store Is Officially Closed

The end of an era and a blow to game preservation.

Like the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U eShops before it, the time has come for another digital storefront to be shuttered. In this case, it's Microsoft's Xbox 360 Store, which had been operational since 2005. After almost 20 years, the marketplace is officially closed.

It's yet another blow to game preservation, as multiple titles that were exclusive to the platform will no longer be available to purchase. This continues to be an ongoing problem within the industry, where publishers make little effort to keep games accessible to fans. In this era of digital-only offerings, preserving software of the past is proving trickier and trickier.

Farewell, Xbox 360 Store.
