$500 for a Switch 2 ain't looking half bad, now...

First it was Xbox Series X|S, then it was PlayStation 5, and more recently it was Nintendo Switch 2; we're talking, unfortunately, about the dreaded price hikes that have been sweeping the video game industry recently. The latest company to join the mix is Valve, which has raised the price of its Steam Deck handheld accordingly:

  • Steam Deck OLED 512GB: Now $789; Previously $549

  • Steam Deck OLED 1TB: Now $949 USD; Previously $649

Ouch. That's one heck of an increase, in particular the jump for the OLED 1TB unit which is now $300 more expensive. The reason for the price increase remains the demand for memory being imposed by the rise of AI, as well as other market factors. Valve recently launched its Steam Controller for a blistering $99, which left a similarly bad taste in the mouths of many consumers. How long will these inflated prices last? Will they ever go down? Color us doubtful, but we'll keep you posted as we learn more.
