The split comes after talks to more closely integrate Annapurna into its parent company.
Annapurna Interactive is hiring... for every position. The publisher saw its entire staff resign following talks with parent company Annapurna Pictures to more closely integrate Annapurna Interactive into the business proper, as the former wants to refocus on video games. Annapurna Interactive, meanwhile, was wanting to spin itself into something independent. The talks fell apart, and the staff at Annapurna Interactive decided to walk.
Annapurna Interactive has made a name for itself over the years putting out games like Stray, Outer Wilds, and What Remains of Edith Finch, to name a very few. Annapurna Interactive typically focuses on boutique indie experiences with unique gameplay and premises that often differentiate the company's offerings from the mainstream. Annapurna Pictures says that Annapurna Interactive, despite these losses, won't be going anywhere, as it will rehire staff and outsource functions as necessary. How this will change Annapurna Interactive remains to be seen, as one would assume the staffers running it played a large hand in informing the direction of the brand.
