Rumor: Game Pass Getting an À la carte Overhaul

XBOX wants to let you pick and choose which features matter most to you.

XBOX Game Pass is potentially gearing up for yet another change. The service had a rocky period not too long ago when XBOX made the terrible decision to jack up prices, with the Ultimate tier skyrocketing to $30 a month. Fans were canceling their subscriptions left and right, and it even drew the attention of the FTC. When new XBOX CEO Asha Sharma came on, one of the early decisions she made was so scale that monthly price back down to the more reasonable (but still expensive) $23.99 a month. It was a wise decision that has worked so far, but XBOX isn't done nipping and tucking just yet.

According to an article by Fortune, Asha Sharma is saying that XBOX will be introducing the option for Game Pass subscribers to choose features à la carte versus being forced into specific elements of the service. If a subscriber is only interested in console games, they can choose that feature; if they want to fiddle with cloud gaming, they can pick that. It would empower Game Pass users to tailor their subscription to their needs, and would, presumably, help them to curate a pricepoint that fits within their budgets. There's no word on when the rollout for this would be, but according to Fortune it's a very real discussion happening internally.
