Yoshida has been part of the PlayStation team since the beginning.
It's the end of an era for the folks over at PlayStation. Sony Interactive Entertainment President Shuhei Yoshida will be retiring come January 15, 2025. He made the announcement on the PlayStation Podcast speaking with host SIE Senior Director of Content Communications Sid Shuman.
"I’ve been with PlayStation from the beginning, and this is my 31st year with PlayStation. And when I hit 30 years, I was thinking, ‘Hmm, it may be about time for me to move on,'" Yoshida said during the interview. He believes that PlayStation is in good hands with his successors, however, so he has high hopes for the brand following his departure.
Yoshida began at PlayStation in 1993 as the third-party licensor on the original PlayStation console development team. He was promoted to SIE VP in 2000 and then became President in 2008. It's been quite a ride for Yoshida over the years; where he'll land after leaving Sony is unknown, but we'll keep you posted if we learn more.
