Employees across TV, film, and finance have been let go.

Disney has let go of a host of workers in its latest round of layoffs. This would mark the fourth round of layoffs within less than a year at the company. Although Disney posted solid numbers at its last financial briefing, the entertainment giant is jettisoning workers in an effort to reduce costs. Here's a bit from a Disney spokesperson:

As our industry transforms at a rapid pace, we continue to evaluate ways to efficiently manage our businesses while fueling the state-of-the-art creativity and innovation that consumers value and expect from Disney. As part of this ongoing work, we have identified opportunities to operate more efficiently and are eliminating a limited number of positions.

As noted above, this isn't the first time in recent memory that Disney has let go of personnel. In 2025, 200 workers were released from ABC News and other entertainment teams; October 2024 saw ABC Signature folded, resulting in the loss of 30 workers; In July of 2024, 140 workers were released, including ones from National Geographic and Disney Entertainment Television. All told, that's over 300 souls out of a job. And that all pales in comparison to the 7,000 workers let go in 2023 upon the return of CEO Bob Iger, who has made it plain that he is intent on cutting costs at the company.

Now, an untold number which is believed to be similiar in scope to the previous layoffs combined has been laid off. It's a bit of a mixed bag for the House of Mouse of late. Movies like Lilo & Stitch manage to do well, but are offset by abject failures like *Thunderbolts. Whether or not these layoffs will help better position Disney moving into the future remains to be seen.
