The Hi-Fi Rush developer is officially back in business!

2024 has been pretty crappy for the video game industry, at least for the worker bee employees who keep getting laid off. SEGA, Bungie, Square Enix, and many other studios have been axing workers left and right all year in a relentless bloodbath. One studio that suffered from the current state of the industry was Tango Gameworks, the studio behind the recent beloved game Hi-Fi Rush. Xbox shuttered the developer only to turn around at a meeting soon thereafter where Microsoft's Matt Booty declared the company wanted "[needs] smaller games that give us prestige and awards."

It was a weird thing to say considering Tango Gameworks did, well, exactly that. Thankfully, someone decided that a studio of Tango's pedigree deserved better than what Xbox did to it and has saved the developer from the abyss. That would be Krafton, the South Korean publisher behind PUBG. Not only has Krafton bought the studio, it's also rehiring everyone who was let go. As part of the deal, the Hi-Fi Rush IP will also not belong to Krafton.

The deal is described as a "strategic agreement" between Krafton and Xbox, but no further details were given. Krafton says that the catalog of Tango games currently available on the market will remain available as they already are. The goal is to have the Hi-Fi Rush team begin working on something new straight away. It isn't every day that we get to report legitimate wins for fans and the industry, but this is definitely one of them.
