It might be a bit of an understatement to say that times have been tough for TT Games and Warner Bros. Games. Both companies have been awash in controversy, whether it's toxic work culture and canceled projects, or massive public failures like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. As such, it seems quite likely that both entities have a lot riding on the freshly announced LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. The latest in TT's long series of LEGO games, Legacy of the Dark Knight represents the studio's fourth trip to Gotham. Take a look:

So, what set this LEGO Batman game apart from its predecessors? First, let's check out the story synopsis:

The adventure begins with the origins of Batman as a young Bruce Wayne trains with The League of Shadows, and throughout the story-led campaign, players will build a family of allies with well-known characters including Jim Gordon, Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, Catwoman, and Talia al Ghul to help confront an ever-growing threat from a Rogues Gallery of DC Super-Villains, facing the likes of The Joker, The Penguin, Poison Ivy, Ra’s al Ghul, Bane, and more.

In the trailer for Legacy of the Dark Knight, there are a number of callbacks to Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, including the portrayals of Joker and Bane, as well as the idea of Bruce training with The League of Shadows. However, there are also clear references to Tim Burton's duology with his version of Catwoman, as well as the mimes that flanked Jack Nicholson's Joker at one point in the '89 Batman film. So, it at least seems like TT is infusing this game with different inspirations to grant it a flavor unique from previous LEGO Batman titles.

This approach is extending to combat, with a focus on combos, counters, and building up big chains of attacks. What's more, there will be a variety of different ways to approach combat thanks to the presence of other Bat-family characters like Jim Gordon, Nightwing, and others, with each bringing their own style of offense along for the ride. TT seems keenly aware that its fans have grown up with the series, as alongside the amped up combat, players can also choose from two, more challenging difficulty levels: Caped Crusader and Dark Knight.

In Legacy of the Dark Knight, players will get to explore a large, open-world Gotham replete with bad guys to pound, secrets to discover, and challenges galore. The Batmobile and Batcycle will even be available for exploration, too. Customization will be on full offer, as a bevy of Batsuits will be attainable, as well as a customizable Batcave. Local two-player co-op is another option for those who want to fight crime with a friend. The game will be coming to Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store in 2026.
