The longtime film and pop culture critic and commentator has been rejected despite years of attendance.
It seems Chris Gore is on the wrong end of the culture wars, yet again. The owner of Film Threat, a website dedicated to the coverage of independent films and the movie industry at large, Gore has been a regular fixture in the world of pop culture and entertainment for decades. Many an old school G4TV fan will remember Gore's numerous appearances on Attack of the Show. During last week's Nerdrotic Nooner episode with host Gary Buechler, Gore first revealed that he was being rejected by LA Comic Con, a convention that he has previously been allowed to host panels at. You can hear it starting at 1:53 in the episode, below:
Now, via his X account, Gore has made it official that the venue will not be allowing him to speak this year:
The letter he received from LACC was rather generic, not revealing why exactly Gore was rejected. Gore states during the episode that he has never previously been prevented from speaking at LACC, and indeed even knows the owner of the event. This has raised questions about the rejection, specifically whether or not Gore is being targeted for his relationship with numerous pop culture commentators (like Nerdrotic, Critical Drinker, and others) that have been under attack by various activist groups.
Gore is outspoken about the current state of film and entertainment, often critical of the identity politics and other activist content being injected into TV, movies, games, and more. At the same time, Gore offers a fair and balanced perspective, not belligerently striking out for the sake of shock value or to be cruel. Despite this, Gore faces heavy criticism of late, which might be a factor in LACC's decision. It sucks and isn't fair, but will likely be LACC's loss more than anything else. LACC will take place from October 4 through October 6, 2024, so there's still time for the show to possibly reverse its decision.
If circumstances change or more details emerge, we'll let you all know.
