Capcom Has Made Less Than $30,000 on the iOS version of Resident Evil 7

The game has been out for about two weeks.

When Apple announced its range of iPhone 15 phones last year, one of the big features being bandied about was that the Pro models would be capable of native console-level graphics and performance. A handful of games were shown off running on the phones that were quite impressive, but there was a general sense of apathy from many at the sight of console-quality games on iPhone. Sort of a resounding sense of "so what?"

Console gaming on iPhone hasn't exactly set the world on fire and that remains the case with Capcom's port of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. The game launched on July 2 for iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices, and in the two weeks since it has amassed total sales of $28,140. That's about 83,000 downloads for less than $30,000. Ouch. Consider that Apple takes a cut of all sales and it doesn't seem like Capcom has made a lot of money from bringing the game to iOS, at least not so far.

It's worth noting that Apple Arcade is also seeing a number of games that were exclusive to the service jump ship to other platforms, including Hello Kitty: Island Adventures. It seems that gaming and Apple don't quite go hand in hand, causing devs to seek out greener pastures in order to turn a suitable profit. But who knows, maybe things will pick up for RE7 as the weeks and months go by.
