Okay, confession: this isn't a normal review. Why? Well, because there's no story! UDON's annual Street Fighter Swimsuit Special is a yearly tradition devoted to the loveliness of the human form. And not just the ladies, but the guys, too. This is an equal opportunity book for those looking to get an eye full of their favorite Capcom characters. And I say Capcom, specifically, because this year UDON opened things up to include the casts of Darkstalkers, Power Stone, Star Gladiator, Captain Commando, Rival Schools, Armored Warriors, Battle Circuit, Cyberbots, and Final Fight (which just saw the release of the first issue of its new miniseries, a book we really enjoyed).
23 artists including the likes of Panzer, Joe Ng, Aki Li, and others have all provided sumptuous pinups. Every page is a splash featuring stunning artwork of the numerous Capcom characters from each of the franchises listed above. Normally I wouldn't do a "review" of a comic like this, because as I said, this book doesn't have a story. So why am I mentioning it? Because comics like these have every right to exist. There's nothing wrong with a little cheesecake, nor enjoying the sight of sexy women (and dudes) frolicking on the sand.
What's more, the art here is just killer, my friends. UDON sometimes reminds me of the Image Comics of old, where it's a veritable murderers row of artistic talent every time the publisher releases a book. If you never knew this comic existed, well, now you do. You might also want to look into pre-ordering Shantae Swimsuit Special #1, which launches in September and features WayForward's half-genie hero (and friends). You're welcome!
2024 Street Fighter & Friends Swimsuit Special #1 is available now in a comic shop near you. Feel free to pick one up and abscond back to somewhere.... relaxing to give it a read. Like the beach! What did you think I meant?!
