Over 150 locations have gotten the "new old" treatment.

There are particular cultural touchstones that Americans of a certain age can share and look back on with a twinkle in their eyes. One of those is the fun of going to Pizza Hut back in the '80s and '90s. At that time, the pizza chain was notable for its red roofed restaurants, checkered tablecloths, decorative, hanging lamps, and salad bars. Slowly but surely, that aesthetic faded, giving way to bland, modern designs that lacked all of the charm and, dare we say, cheesy wholesomeness that the old decor evoked.

Flash forward to 2026 in a world where most fast food chains look like cinderblocks with diffused lighting, and many people have had enough. Thus, when Yum! Brands, which owns a whole gaggle of Pizza Hut restaurants across the United States, decided to turn back the clock and redecorate their restaurants with an eye towards tradition, diners started to take note. Now, 150 Pizza Huts around the country have been revamped with this "new old" look. The result has been a net positive, with fans coming back in droves to re-experience, or experience for the first time, the joy of what was.
In a press release, Pizza Hut says that this reinvigoration of the brand "feels less like a product launch and more like a homecoming." For many Americans who grew up with red cups, slices of pepperoni pizza, and fistfuls of quarters to put into arcade machines, the change is a welcome reminder of simpler times. Sadly, none of these revamped Pizza Huts have made it to the west coast, but here's hoping we'll eventually get to join in on the fun.
