The Essentials tier for new subscribers is specifically being targeted.

The video game industry continues to find every way it can to stick it to consumers in the form of price hikes. The latest is coming to PlayStation Plus subscribers, specifically those who are signing up for the Essential tier of the service. The price is going from $9.99 per month to $10.99. A three month subscription jumps from $24.99 to $27.99.
Again, this jump is for those who don't currently have an active PS Plus Essential subscription. The effect takes place as of today, May 20, 2026. If you are already a subscriber, your monthly payment won't be impacted, but if your subscription lapses or changes, you'll be stuck with the new $10.99 price point. Sony alleges "ongoing market conditions" as the reason for the increase.
