Concord is Looking DoA

Well, looks like it's going to be a grand opening, grand closing sort of situation for Concord when it comes to PlayStation 5 on August 23, 2024. The free-to-play hero shooter by Firewalk Studios has made its debut on PS5 and PC with a Beta Early Access weekend (July 12 to July 14) for anyone who's pre-ordered the game.

It's, well, not going so hot, at least in terms of active players. Now, take this with a grain of salt, but at least on the Steam side of things, the peak player count was at 1,124 players two days ago. This says nothing about the reaction from PS5 users, but if Sony is hoping for Concord to be a cross-platform sensation, such a small player count can't be a good sign.

Concord has received heavy criticism since it was announced owing to what many consider an over-saturation of the hero shooter genre, bland looking gameplay, and some frankly hideous character designs. There will be an Open Beta from July 18 to July 21 where users don't have to have pre-ordered Concord in order to participate, so perhaps by then the game will have garnered enough positive word of mouth from this beta to bump those numbers up.
