The year of layoffs continues.
Ubisoft has laid off 45 workers in its US offices. The move is a result of "restructuring" within the company and effects Ubisoft San Francisco and Red Storm Entertainment. In a statement, a Ubisoft spokesperson said the following about the layoffs:
Yesterday Ubisoft San Francisco and Red Storm Entertainment informed their teams of a restructuring that resulted in 45 employees leaving Ubisoft. This difficult yet necessary decision was made to align these studios' organizations with their future business and development objectives. We are committed to providing comprehensive support to those affected, including severance and career assistance, and we thank them for their many contributions to Ubisoft.
Ubisoft has recently done two other rounds of layoffs, despite reporting that net bookings had reached a new high in 2023, as well as a rise in net sales for the company. These layoffs have been a disturbing trend that has been plaguing the video game industry since the tail-end of 2023. Ubisoft only has two major releases left for 2024 (Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin's Creed Shadows) and their success or failure will likely impact further personnel decisions in the future.
