The Purge will be the first book to come from the new deal.

IDW Dark is a horror-focused imprint announced by IDW back in 2024. It focuses on in-house horror stories as well as licensed horror series. Licensing is at the heart of the announcement made during New York Comic Con, where the publisher revealed it will be working with the film company Blumhouse to produce comics based on the studio's IPs. First out the gates will be a story based on The Purge, which should hit comic book shops in late 2027. It will be followed by series based on M3GAN and Happy Death Day.

Dan Watters is handling writing duties for The Purge, with Juan José Ryp on art. The series will be set in the universe of The Purge films, but isn't a direct adaption of any previous stories. Instead, it will revolve around an all-new setting and cast of characters, continuing to explore the morality tale that exists at the heart of the films. As for M3GAN and Happy Death Day, no word on creatives attached to these projects beyond Tim Seeley, who is writing the latter.

The Purge #1 will come to comic book shops late 2027.
