NYCC '26: DC Talks Batman: Shadow of the Bat #1

A Gotham being tormented by constant disasters.

Batman: Shadow of the Bat #1 was announced a while back as a complimentary series to the ongoing Batman and Detective Comics. Written by the polarizing Denyz Camp and illustrated by Javier Rodriguez, the comic will be focusing on, as the title suggests, the goings on in Gotham versus just the life of Batman himself. At New York Comic Con, Camp spoke at length about the series and his plans for it.

Camp frames the Gotham in Shadow of the Bat as a place "of constant disasters" where the denizens of the city are continually impacted by and transformed by the things that happen there. Shadow of the Bat's initial premise revolves around an explosion at Ace Chemicals, birthplace of the Joker, which sends a wash of neuropharmacological agents across that part of town. The area is subsequently quarantined in case the chemicals transform a resident into a Joker-like entity. The ensuing lockdown starts causing problems, and Batman has to contend with the fallout.
Camp states that a spotlight is going to be shined on the new supporting cast of characters that will be introduced in the series. Shadow of the Bat will also be looking at how Batman keeps his humanity in the face of all the horrors that he's routinely subjected to as the defender of Gotham. Still no release date for this one, but once we have it, we'll share it with all of you.
