Publisher Mark Doyle is among those let go by the company.
IDW has let go of four of its administrative staffers. Chief among them being Mark Doyle, the company's publisher since 2021. Doyle had previously been the Group Editor of the Batman line at DC Comics, where he ran afoul of Tom King who ultimately got him removed from his position, followed not long thereafter with leaving DC entirely. Now, Doyle is also gone from IDW, along with three other workers from marketing, production, and shipping.
Times have been turbulent for IDW in recent years. While there have been successes, like the recent launch of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1, which sold 300,000 copies, the publisher just seems incapable of slipping into a profitable groove. With so much of IDW's sales predicated upon licensing deals, like TMNT, Sonic the Hedgehog, Star Trek, and others, it has been hard for the company to make ends meet. This move is a sad one, but also not unexpected.
Beyond TMNT, IDW has Alan Moore's final comic book, Moon and Serpent Bumper Book of Magic, prepping to launch this October. We'll keep you posted on what's happening with the beleaguered publisher as we learn more.
