It would have been Kubert's centennial this year, but that's not stopping DC from honoring a legend.

There are certain names within the world of comic books that demand respect for their indelible influence on the medium. Stan Lee. Jack Kirby. Will Eisner. And another, Joe Kubert, whose career impacted not just pages within comic books, but the people who made them, as well. Founder of the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic art, Kubert spent years helping to cultivate new talent, including the likes of Scott Kolins, Alex Maleev, Lee Weeks, Rags Morales, and many others.

Kubert's work, meanwhile, graced series like Sgt. Rock, Hawkman, Tarzan, and more. His style was bold and filled with energy; the man seemed to rarely ever use a ruler to draw straight lines, and it's that looseness and spontaneity that made his art so mesmerizing. His sons Adam and Andy have a similar way with lines, and it's all thanks to Joe Kubert that fans have been spoiled with such visual treats for decades. Now, DC Comics is honoring what would have been the artist's 100th birthday with a series of releases this September.

  • Sgt. Rock by Joe Kubert: Deluxe Edition: This 328-page hardcover collection brings together some of Joe Kubert's most memorable and impactful stories featuring Sgt. Rock, a character with whom most fans most closely identify the creator. It features restored coloring and truly highlights Kubert at the height of his creative powers. Releases September 15, 2026.

  • DC Special #5 Facsimile Edition: This reprint features a special commemorative jam cover boasting Kubert family and Kubert School alumni, including Adam Kubert, Andy Kubert, Emma Kubert, Jan Duursema, Tom Mandrake, Ron Wagner, Amanda Conner, Rick Veitch, Stephen R. Bissette, Lee Weeks, Ron Randall, Steve Lieber, and colorist Brad Anderson. Releases September 16, 2026.

  • Joe Kubert: 100 Years – A Life in Covers: This special comic book looks back at Joe Kubert's career at DC Comics spanning multiple decades. The covers included come from series like The Brave and the Bold, House of Mystery, Sgt. Rock, Ragman, and more. Releases September 16, 2026.

It's really a delight to see DC Comics honoring such an important figure within the comic book industry. If you've never seen Kubert's work for yourself on the printed page, be sure to keep an eye open for one of these comics and consider giving it a buy.
